Real-time assessment of wheel flaws

The Stationary Wheel Inspection System consists of one inspection station per wheel. Each station has a test head, with multiple probes, that engage at the rim of the wheel.

As rail wheels are passed over the inspection stations on flange-bearing track, the system sprays couplant onto the lower surface of the wheel using a fine mist. The inspection probes assess the integrity of the wheels as they rotate against the inspection head.

The system then provides real-time assessment and reporting of flaw types, flaw sizes, and flaw locations that appear in and across the tread and rim of the wheel.

Multiple configurations available

The Stationary Wheel Inspection System is available in multiple configurations to meet your needs. It can be installed on an existing wheel truing station, or as a standalone system near the location for inspection after the wheels are cut.

When the Stationary Wheel Inspection System is integrated into the cutting process, you have the ability to inspect the tread before and after the wheel is profiled, confirming that any potential defects have been removed.
